<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a discharge cell that should emit light to emit light even after a panel is left in a non-emission state for a long period. <P>SOLUTION: In a panel driving method, one field is provided with a plurality of sub-fields each having an initialization period in which an inclined waveform voltage is applied to a scanning electrode, a writing period in which a scanning pulse is applied to the scanning electrode and a writing pulse is applied to a data electrode, and a sustaining period in which sustaining pulses are applied alternately to the scanning electrode and a sustaining electrode.
