The device has a base body (13a) and heating elements (20a-25a) mounted at carrier units (31a, 33a) i.e. plates. Actuator units (32a, 34a) move the heating elements on a set of lines (54a, 55a) with respect to the carrier units, and are provided with a controlling unit (16a). Another actuator unit (30a) moves the carrier units on another set of lines (50a, 51a) with respect to the base body, where the former set of lines is oriented perpendicular to the latter set of lines. The heating elements are arranged adjacent to each other in an operating condition. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a cook hob device.
