A compressor section (100) of a turbocharger (501) or other air boost device is provided that can reduce stall noise. The compressor section has a housing (110) with a blind groove (175, 275) formed therein. The blind groove (175, 275) can be in proximity to a leading edge (155) of at least one of the blades (150) and can straddle the leading edges (155) of the splitter blades (150). The blind groove (175, 275) can be formed by machining and/or casting. The blind groove (175, 275) can have a substantially uniform width and depth, and can circumscribe the impeller (130) to form a continuous annular channel.
