<p>A damper assembly for a hinge comprises a damping device 10 with a piston arranged to be movable within a cylinder 15 containing damping fluid, a retainer 11, 12 for mounting the device and a mechanism 18, 19 for converting rotational movement of the hinge into relative movement of the piston and the cylinder. The piston may be mounted on a piston rod 14 that has a free end extending out of the cylinder. The movement converting mechanism may be arranged to act on the cylinder at a position substantially outside the range of movement of the piston on its working stroke. The movement converting mechanism may include a camming surface on the cylinder. The damper may further comprise a resiliently deformable element 20 interposed in the line of the force transmitted to the damping device, and may form part of the movement converting mechanism.</p> |
