<p>A control line space out tool 10 for measuring the length of control line 12 required to extend between two and locations in a wellbore. The tool comprises a body 14 having a locator for holding the tool at a particular location in the wellbore, the locator is a conical edge 38 which contacts a ledge in the wellbore at a set position. A bore 19 is provided through the tool allowing a control line 12 to pass through. The tool includes a grip in the form of rubber slips 32 for locking onto the control line 12 and an actuator in the form of a piston 30 for operating the slips. In use the device is mounted on a control line 12 above a stinger assembly and run into the wellbore, the tool lands on a ledge in the wellbore and the stinger and control line continue down the wellbore, the tool includes a timer 34 to operate the slip mechanism after a set time locking the tool onto the control line. The position of the tool on the retrieved control line gives the required length of control line to extend from the ledge to the desired stinger assembly location</p> |
