PURPOSE: A circuit for calculating a fly height value, and a storage media and a method for correcting the fly height value are provided to control the distance between a read-write head assembly and a corresponding storage media according to the size and denotation of a composite fly height output. CONSTITUTION: A first pattern detector circuit(257) distinguishes a first pattern among a received data set. A first pattern fly height calculation circuit(270) calculates a first fly height by using a data value corresponding to the first pattern. A first averaging circuit(282) averages the first pattern fly height output. A second pattern detector circuit(259) distinguishes a second pattern among the received data set. A second pattern fly height calculation circuit(273) calculates a second fly height by using a data value corresponding to the second pattern. A second averaging circuit(285) averages the second pattern fly height output. A normalizing circuit(295) calculates a composite fly height value.
