An LED(light emitting diode) backlight and an LCD using the same are provided to improve a color mixture characteristic by generating white light through rotating and mixing R,G,B color. An LED cluster(140) includes a lead substrate(142), an LED chip array(144) loaded on the lead substrate, and a lens(146) covering the LED chip array. A driving unit(150) supports and rotates the LED cluster. A current supply unit(160) supplies an operating current of the LED chip array. The LED chip array is a combination of R(red), G(green) and B(blue) LED chips respectively emitting R, G and B color light to implement white light by color mixture. The driving unit includes a rotary shaft(152) protruding downwardly from a rear surface of the lead substrate and has magnetism, a support plate(154) including a through hole in which the rotary shaft is penetratingly inserted and receiving the lead substrate, and an annular electrode(158) provided along an inner surface of the through hole to surround an outer surface of the rotary shaft and receiving an alternating current. |
