The invention relates to a device and a method for phase separation of a multiphase mixture (22) with at least one gas (7) and at least two fluid phases (8, 9). The device (1) for phase separation has a vessel (2), which features a tangential inlet (5) via which the multiphase mixture (22) is able to be conveyed to the vessel (2). The vessel (2) further features a tangential gas outlet (3) disposed vertically above the inlet (5), via which a gas phase (7) of the multiphase mixture (22) separated from the multiphase mixture (22) is able to be taken out of the vessel (2). The vessel (2) also has at least two outlets (11, 12) disposed vertically below the inlet (5) at different vertical heights, via which one of the at least two fluid phases (8, 9) of the multiphase mixture (22) respectively separated from the multiphase mixture (22) is able to be taken out of the vessel (2). In the method for phase separation of a multiphase mixture (22), using the device (1) for phase separation, an upwards--directed eddy flow (13) is imparted to the multiphase mixture (22), wherein during the throughflow of upwards-directed eddies (17) of the eddy flow (13) fluid droplets (18) are separated out from the multiphase gas mixture (22) and when this is done the separated gas phase (7) of the multiphase mixture (22) is formed. The fluid droplets (18) are collected, wherein a first and a second fluid phase (8, 9) form in the collected fluid droplets (18) under the influence of gravity. All phases formed (7, 8, 9) are taken away separately from one another, through which the multiphase mixture (22) is separated.
