PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to appropriately apply a heat treatment to various kinds of metal strips by a single heat treatment furnace in the heat-treatment furnace used for heat-treating the metal strip. SOLUTION: The heat treatment furnace is provided with: a heating zone 12 for heating the metal strip 1; a cooling zone 13 for cooling the metal strip heated in the heating zone; and a holding zone 14 for holding the metal strip cooled in the cooling zone. In the heat treatment furnace, the long route and the short route different in the distance for moving the metal strip are provided in the holding zone, and the routes for moving the metal strip are changed according to the kinds of metal strips.
