Imaging apparatus for capturing an image in digital format includes: segmentation means for segmenting the image into an array of sub-images; an array of image detectors, each detecting one of the sub-images; data transfer means, for transferring image data from the image detectors; and one or more data processors, for processing the image data transferred by the data transfer means and recombining the sub-images into a single image.
