<p>578143 Disclosed Is a horizontal axis wind turbine for generating electricity. The apparatus includes a plurality of elongated turbine blades rotatably mounted about an axis, each turbine blade extending generally parallel to the axis and having an aerofoil shaped profile. A pair of diametrically opposed wind deflection members are positioned at opposite ends of a diameter of the wind turbine apparatus such that, when the wind direction is perpendicular to said diameter, the turbine blades and deflection members are exposed to an open, unobstructed wind flow. Each turbine blade has a leading edge, a trailing edge and a thickest portion there between, and wherein a line segment drawn from the axis to the centre of a thickest portion of a turbine blade and a line segment drawn from the centre of the thickest portion of the turbine blade to the trailing edge of the turbine blade define an angle of less than 90 DEGREE .</p> |
