Disclosed is a vaccine composition. The vaccine comprises: an immunogenic amount of somatostatin-based antigen comprising an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 3,7, and 8, as disclosed in the complete specification, and an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1, as disclosed in the complete specification, wherein a spacer links the amino acid sequences; and an adjuvant comprising at least carboxypolyrnethylene, squalene and arabinogalactan. Also disclosed is the use of said vaccine in the treatment of a growth hormone and/or insulin-like growth factor 1 deficiency in a patient.
