A pharmaceutical aerosol composition comprising at least one hydrofluoroalkane propellant; at least one active agent complexed with an adjuvant by the method: (a) mixing the active agent in an organic solvent; (b) heating the mixture from step (a) to a suitable temperature and adding water to form a clear solution; (c) adding the adjuvant to the solution from step (b); (d) concentrating the solution from step (c) under reduced pressure to form a residue; (e) washing the residue from step (d) with the same solvent used in step (a); and (f) drying the washed residue from step (e) to form a drug-adjuvant complex. and, optionally, at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.
