<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer for reading various information from a substitute part, and the like. <P>SOLUTION: This printer can be mounted with a plurality of types of cartridges each including IC chips, and includes a plurality of insertion openings corresponding to the respective types of cartridges. The printer includes a printer control circuit 67 for communicating with IC chips arranged in the cartridges via the insertion openings. A communication-failed insertion opening incapable of communicating with the IC chip of a communication-failed cartridge is detected. A substitute object insertion opening capable of communicating the IC chip of a substitute cartridge is detected. When the IC chip arranged in the substitute cartridge can not communicate with the communication-failed insertion opening, or when the IC chip arranged in the communication-failed cartridge can communicate with the substitute object insertion opening, it is reported that the communication-failed insertion opening does not work. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
