The present invention relates to a column chromatography method for producing carrier-free, highly pure 177Lu compounds for medical purposes. In the method according to the invention, a cation exchanger and a suitable complexing agent are used. The method according to the invention for the first time permits for carrier-free, highly pure 177Lu compounds to be made available in highly pure form in milligram amounts for pharmaceutical-medical purposes from 176Yb compounds which are irradiated with thermal neutrons, wherein the radionuclides 177Lu and 176Yb are present for the purification in a mass ratio of approximately 1:102 to 1:1010.
