<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer actuator element which is improved particularly in durability in comparison with conventional ones, and a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The polymer actuator element includes an electrolyte layer (2) and electrode layers (3, 4) disposed on both surfaces in the thickness direction of the electrolyte layer. The electrolyte layer and the electrode layers contain an ionic liquid, and the electrode layers contain carbon nanotubes. The polymer actuator element deforms when a voltage is applied between the electrode layers.
