<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and easily adjust the centering of a workpiece by changing positions of steady rest arms without requiring a contact effect of the three steady rest arms to be removed from the workpiece. <P>SOLUTION: An operation rod 5 has a machined passage hole 14 therein, and a force acting element 15 is inserted into the hole. The force acting element is in an engaged state with a first and/or a second adjusting devices 31, 32 by intermediate elements 16, 17, 20, 30, 35. When the workpiece is clamped, the first adjusting device can adjust the three steady rest arms mutually together and simultaneously to a designated position, and position the clamped workpiece on a horizontal plane.
