The suspended conveyor chain follows an upwards trajectory shortly before engaging with the chain drive unit. An overhead conveyor system used in slaughterhouses to transport poultry comprises a series of carcass hooks (6), an endless chain (2) joining the hooks together, and a drive mechanism (10) for the chain, which is suspended from and extends along a guide. The drive mechanism includes at least one drive unit (12) in direct contact with the chain. Shortly upstream from the drive unit the guide follows an upwards trajectory (1c) towards the unit. An Independent claim is also included for a second overhead conveyor system similar to the one above, where the guide follows a mainly horizontal trajectory (1b) and the drive unit engages with the chain in a plane above this main trajectory.
