OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM, OPTICAL COMMUNICATION DEVICE, AND COMMUNICATION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure correct data transmission from a downstream device to an upstream device if an erroneous optical emission signal is generated at the downstream device because of sleep control.

SOLUTION: In an optical communication system including an upstream device and at least first and second downstream devices which communicate with the upstream device with optical signals, the upstream device comprises: a processing unit for transmitting a transmission grant message to each downstream device; a sleep control unit for transmitting a sleep instruction message and a sleep cancellation message to the second downstream device; and an error detection unit for detecting an erroneous section of data received from the first downstream device. If an erroneous section is detected after the sleep control unit transmits a sleep instruction message or a sleep cancellation message, the processing unit of the upstream device transmits a retransmission grant message for controlling the first downstream device to retransmit at least data corresponding to the erroneous section.
