<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance user-friendliness for changing the brightness of a display screen. <P>SOLUTION: A controller 2 reads out a piece of data on brightness setting values corresponding to the present time and the present calendar from a built-in memory, compares the brightness setting value with the present set brightness value to determine the necessity of changing. When the brightness value read out from the built-in memory is different from the present set brightness value, the controller 2 gives an instruction to a back light section 4 to change the brightness to a new brightness value read out from the built-in memory. Since the controller 2 adjusts the brightness of the back light section 4 according to the calendar and the time, different from the conventional art, it is not necessary for a user to frequently change the brightness of the display screen according to the changes in environmental brightness depending on the season and time.
