Provided is a content playback device such that in a case when pieces of content with common content but different viewing formats have different video lengths or partially different video content, the sense of discomfort a user feels when halting playback, switching the viewing format, then resuming playback can be reduced in comparison to conventional devices. The content playback device receives and plays back streaming content from a content server which delivers two pieces of content with common content but different viewing formats, said content playback device including: a selection means for selecting a viewing format; a determination means for determining whether or not playback has been halted for first content having a viewing format different from the selected viewing format; a conversion means for converting the position at which playback was halted to a corresponding position in second content having the selected viewing format when it is determined that the playback is halted; and a request means for requesting that said content server sends said second content from said corresponding position.
