The pump device (41) has a high pressure pump (40) which is provided in order to deliver fuel from low pressure region (34) into a high pressure region (32) of the common rail injection system (30). A vent valve (10) is connected to high pressure region of the rail injection system. The vent valve is constructed such that it is opened, when pressure in high pressure region is less than a predefined pressure.
