<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared transmitter and a projection system, capable of expanding an infrared transmission range irrespective of positional relation with a projector, in an infrared transmitter to a shutter-type 3D glasses for use for the projector. <P>SOLUTION: The infrared transmitter includes: a signal transmitter unit for transmitting toward the shutter-type glasses a synchronous signal to synchronize the display timing of a three-dimensional image, including a left-eye image and a right-eye image to be displayed on an image display device, with the drive timing of a shutter unit alternately transmitting the left-eye image and the right-eye image through the shutter-type glasses for use to view a three-dimensional image; and a motion mechanism for changing the output direction of the synchronous signal by moving the signal transmitter unit.
