<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent bolts or nuts from being engaged into a gap between neighboring bar materials among a number of bar materials constituting a movable pit cover. <P>SOLUTION: A chassis dynamometer M comprises a pair of front and rear dynamo units DU<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, DU<SB POS="POST">2</SB>and a movable pit cover C<SB POS="POST">1</SB>. One of the pair of front and rear dynamo units DU<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, DU<SB POS="POST">2</SB>is fixed within a pit P and the other is disposed movable within the pit P so as to adjust an interval between front and rear rollers R<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, R<SB POS="POST">2</SB>in accordance with an interval between front and rear wheels 91 of a vehicle T<SB POS="POST">1</SB>to be tested. In the movable pit cover C<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, both ends of a number of bar materials B<SB POS="POST">1</SB>are connected to a pair of chain N to form a cover part and the cover part is moved while being interlocked with the dynamo unit DU<SB POS="POST">1</SB>in a movable structure to cover the periphery of a pair of rollers R<SB POS="POST">1</SB>constituting the dynamo unit DU<SB POS="POST">1</SB>in the movable structure in a pit opening 1.
