<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for forming a leno selvedge. <P>SOLUTION: A device includes a rack for arrangement on a heald frame of a weaving machine. The rack includes at least one needle pair 60 for two leno threads. The needle pair is supported in the rack so as to be pivotable around the longitudinal axis of the rack. The device includes a pivot drive part for pivoting movement of the at least one needle pair. The pivot drive part includes: a carrier which forms an air gap and includes at least two permanent magnets arranged one above the other with a space therebetween; and a movable member 25 which is pivotably arranged on the axis of the rack. The movable member includes a head which includes at least one coil and is located in the air gap.
