<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of coping with various use environments. <P>SOLUTION: A projector comprises: an optical modulation element 16 for modulating a hologram reproducing optical image corresponding to a laser beam emitted from a laser light source 11 to emit the modulated optical image as a projection optical image; a projection optical system 17 for projecting the projection optical image incident from the optical modulation element 16; projection mode selecting means 21 for selecting a focus depth when projecting the projection optical image, from a plurality of predetermined focus depths; and an insertable and removable expansion optical system 13.
