The invention relates to a chuck for a non-circular, preferably polygonal shank (4) of a tool insert (5), notably of screwdriver bits. The chuck comprises an inner sleeve (2) which at one end has an opening (3), designed for insertion of the shank (4) and presenting an inner contour adjusted to the cross-sectional profile of said shank (4), as well as a spring disk (6)hich is provided with flexible tongues pointing radially inwards for engaging the inserted shank (4). The chuck also comprises an outer sleeve (10) which can be axially displaced on the inner sleeve (2) and has a face (14) with a through hole (15) for the shank (4) and a circular appendage (16) which faces the opening (3) and serves to expand the flexible tongues during axial displacement of the outer sleeve (10). According to the invention the outer sleeve (10) is positioned on the inner sleeve2) in a non-rotating manner and the through hole (15) and circular appendage (16) have an inner contour which is adjusted to the cross-sectional profile of the shank (4) and aligned flush with the inner contour of the inner sleeve (2). The inner sleeve (2) also houses an ejector spring (17) which is loaded when the shank (4) is introduced and during expansion of the flexible tongues (7) pushes the shank at least partly out of the opening (3).
