The window lifter has parts (2) to connect it to a pane (1), and a device (20,29) to pivot the pane. The device is coupled to only one of the two side end sections of the pane. It presses the top pane end (15) against a seal (9) with a force acting at right angles to the direction of movement. The device is activated during a final stage of the window closing movement. The window pane moves in one or more guide rails.
