PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the expressing power of a display image which is different only in gradation or brightness without increasing the capacities of a character ROM and a palette RAM. SOLUTION: According to setting data of a display image from a CPU 4, a drawing means 3 extracts respective pieces of pixel data of character data from the character ROM 2 and separates those pieces of pixel data into palette codes and coefficient codes respectively. According to a palette table stored in the palette RAM 1, a coefficient table, and the setting data, palette data and coefficient values are obtained through table conversion and operated to generate display RGB data, which are written to and stored in an image buffer 5 to draw it.
