PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device which can deal with plural communication protocols of different types and also has a high processing speed and high performance. SOLUTION: A communication device 3 of a router device, etc. having a function that executes plural different protocols via the same communication circuit includes the 1st and 2nd communication control parts 4 and 5 having the logical control circuits which control the data communications of the communication protocols and can rewrite them in an onboard state, a communication protocol deciding part 17 which decides the type of the communication protocol to be used in a call action mode set before the data communication to be executed by the communication protocol and a rewriting part 8 which rewrites the logical control circuits of parts 4 and 5 according to the type of the communication protocol that is decided by the part 17. Each of logical control circuits consists of an FPGA(field programmable gate array) or PLD(programmable logic device), for example, and the part 17 decides a protocol type according to the signaling speed that is designated by a network 1.
