The system (1) has a mask (2) connected with a flexible air tube. A head support (7) with a support surface (17) is placed on forehead of a patient. A strap system (10) connects the mask to the head of the patient. The head support and a fastening arrangement are detachably fastened to the mask such that the system is used as an anesthesia mask (4) without the head support and without a fastening unit (14) and used as a breathing mask (3) with head support and fastening units. An independent claim is also included for a process for respirating a patient.
