PURPOSE: A method for detecting remaining amount of toner of a printer is provided to easily detect a time for supplementing toner and exchanging a toner cartridge. CONSTITUTION: A method for detecting remaining amount of toner of a printer includes the steps of confirming whether a toner cartridge is exchanged(S1), initializing the total amount of toner filled the toner cartridge if the toner cartridge is exchanged(S2), converting into a print standby state if receiving a print command(S4), storing print data and detecting the data amount of the stored print data(S5), calculating wasted amount of toner from the detected data amount(S6), accumulatively calculating the wasted amount of toner with the total wasted amount of toner up to now(S7), comparing the total wasted amount of toner with the total amount of toner filled the toner cartridge(S8), and judging that toner is in short supply if the wasted amount of toner exceeds a regular range to the total amount of toner(S10).
