A footwear item having a sole 1, structural strapping 2 and a closed upper or cover 3; wherein the upper 3 may be at least partly detached to provide an open-toed footwear item. The upper 3 may be attached to the sole 1 by means of press studs (20, figure 3) or a sliding fastener such as a zip. The invention allows for a pair of flip-flop type shoes to be converted into a pair of mules by the fitting of the cover 3. |
