PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a crystallized glass substrate for an information recording medium, excellent in sliding reliability and having surface properties capable of high recording density and high rigidity and to provide a method for manufacturing the information recording medium using the substrate. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing glass substrate for the information recording medium, consisting of a crystallized glass in which crystal particles are dispersed in a continuous phase of amorphous glass, the crystallized glass substrate whose principal surface is polished is subjected to surface treatment using an aqueous solution containing fluorosilicic acid to control the surface roughness of a projecting and recessing part contributing to sliding characteristics with a recording and reproducing head and formed on the principal surface of the substrate. The method for manufacturing the information recording medium is also provided, in which at least an information recording layer is formed on the principal surface of the glass substrate for the information recording medium obtained by the method above.
