307,349. Schwaller, R. A. March 5, 1928, [Convention date]. Motors operated by the force of expansion or contraction of liquids by heat or cold.-A volume of liquid b in a block a is caused to expand or contract by the application of heat or cold, and movement is thus imparted to a piston d to which are attached differential pistons f', f<2>. A channel g connects the opposite ends of the cylinder containing these pistons, and the displacement of liquid in the annular space h causes movement of a piston i. This displaces a piston i which drives the shaft m through connecting rod k and crank l. The arrangement of the pistons may be modified, and the movement of the first piston system may be transmitted by levers. A valve is arranged in the base c. Two or more units may be connected together to produce continuous rotation. The liquid medium b may be oil, molten metal, water, or hydrocarbon compound. |
