PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short arc type cadmium lamp capable of excellently preventing the occurrence of a devitrification phenomenon by a crack of a light emitting tube, and capable of excellently preventing reduction in a quantity of emitted light by surface reflection, and to provide a lamp having a high maintenance factor of emitting illuminance in a discharge lamp for sealing cadmium as a light emitting substance. SOLUTION: In a short arc type lamp there a cathode and an anode are oppositely arranged in the light emitting tube for passing an ultraviolet ray, and at least rare gas and the cadmium are sealed in this light emitting tube, an alumina (Al2O3) diffusive layer is applied to the inside surface side of the light emitting tube.
