PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To output an ultrasonic wave of half wave very narrow in a time width to conduct highly precise flaw detection. SOLUTION: In this ultrasonic flaw detection method wherein pressure wave is generated by impressing an electric signal to an ultrasonic probe, wherein the pressure wave is propagated into an inside of a material, and wherein the pressure wave reflected from the inside of the material is detected to diagnose a defect or deterioration, the pressure wave of the inpulse-like half-wave shape very narrow in the time width is propagated into the inside of the material. The ultrasonic probe comprises a packing layer, a matching layer and a piezoelectric body supported between the both layers, the packing layer and the matching layer have an acoustic impedance characteristic substantially equal to an acoustic impedance of the piezoelectric body, and the packing layer is formed to be sufficiently thick compared with the piezoelectric body.
