A power tool (20 fig. 1) includes a motor 32 having a can 72 and a shaft 96 extending axially from the can 72, a gear case 40 having an inner surface that defines an opening 124, a bearing 68 positioned around a portion of the shaft 96 that extends from the can 72 and at least partially within the opening 124 in the gear case 40, and a motor mount 64 coupled to the motor 32 and having a flange 100 extending away from the motor 32, the flange 100 of the motor mount 64 and the inner surface 124 of the gear case 40 axially and laterally locating the motor 32 and the gear case 40 on the bearing 68. The motor mount 64 may be coupled to the motor 32 by shoulder pins 60 threaded into the can 72, inserted into openings 88 in the motor mount 64 and secured by setscrews (136 fig. 9) screwed into openings 140 in motor mount 64. The motor mount 64 may be secured to gear case 40 by threaded fasteners 132 passing through radially extending arms 84. Bearing 68 may be press-fit on a pinion 56 carried by shaft 96. The radially extending arms 84 may be flexed towards the gear case 40 to apply a load to bearing 68. The power tool may be a jigsaw (20 fig. 1), a rotary hammer drill (220 fig. 11) or a reciprocating saw (420 fig. 16). |
