PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for predicting surface crack of products in continuous casting are provided to calculate a proper depth of a submerged nozzle according to casting speed by using a surface crack index and to predict surface crack of products using the casting speed and the height of a tundish. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for predicting surface crack of products in continuous casting comprises a memory(110), a casting speed detecting unit(120), and a control unit(150). The memory stores operation data about the height and various setting values of a tundish(20). The casting speed detecting unit detects the casting speed of continuous-cast slab(80) casted using a mold. The control unit obtains an operation variable by multiplying the casting speed of the continuous-cast slab by the height of the tundish, predicts the generation degree of surface crack using the obtained operation variable, and variably controls the height of the tundish or casting speed of the continuous-cast slab according to the prediction result.
