In this application for a patent, Traceability of Agricultural and Agri Food Products will be done using RFID and GPS technology. Current methods of traceability in Agricultural and Agri Foods are rudimentary and involve far too much manual intervention that can not only lead to human errors in information coding but also due to the burden of human involvement in the process, the current systems do not make it conducive for wide application and use. In using RFID and GPS technologies, the traceability will be automated by bar coding or chip technology into each product that is harvested. All the data will be collected and stored in a database to follow each product from its origin farm, processing, transportation and delivery to the end consumer. Using RFDI and GPS technology, we will capture the exact origin of each vegetable, fruit, poultry, beef, lamb, goat, etc. and their processed products through their transporter all the way to the end supermarket and consumer. This functionality is crucial in avoiding mass recalls of contaminated products, products which may have bacteria or even mad cow disease. By tracing each product individually, it will be easy for customers not only to know where their food is coming from, but the regulatory authorities will be able to identify within a matter of seconds where the product originated from. Even in processed goods, our Traceability System will allow the processors to identify the source and origin of each key ingredient they use in their production. In case of contamination, within a few seconds, the processor will know where the input products came from me. In case of a disease breakout of food poisoning, the authorities will know right away where that particular food item originated from and instead of banning a large amount of product off the market; they will be able to identify the batch and processing location where the product came from. We will capture and store this data in an online accessible database to assist the Department of Agricultural and Agri Foods. Certainly, this will avoid a country wide ban on all products from a country just because one bad batch of a food product was discovered to have made some people sick. We will also make available this information via the Internet to end consumers who are interested to know the origin and handling of the food they consume.
