The device (100) has a part (10) comprising a piezoelectric element (11) with a portion (11b) that is in contact with a structure (S) of a material (M) to be tested. A power supply unit (30) supplies power to an electric field generator. Another portion (11a) of the piezoelectric element comprises an insulating support. The electric field generator generates and propagates surface acoustic waves (SAW) or guided acoustic wave (GAW) on a surface of the structure to allow non-destructive evaluation of physical and structural properties e.g. thickness, of the structure. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a control device.
