<p>PURPOSE: A BPI control method for a disk and a hard disk drive controlled by the same are provided to increase capacity by controlling a BPI based on the difference of read and write performance. CONSTITUTION: A controller measures an OW(Over Write) or a BER(Bit Error Rate) along the columnar direction of a disk surface according to each servo signal(S11). The controller calculates the amount of change of the OW or the BER by comparing a target OW or BER according a base setting value with a measured OW or BER and sets a BPI modification value per servo signal(S12). When a read/write operation is progressed, the controller provides a corresponding BPI as a corresponding servo signal based on the BPI modification value per servo signal(S13).
