An input device of a terminal and a controlling method thereof are provided to operate backlight of a key button related to an external or internal event when the external or internal event occurs, thus a user can easily know which key button is to be operated. A key input unit(160) includes key buttons capable of being independently controllable, respectively. When a predetermined event occurs, a controller(110) generates a control signal in accordance with the event. The controller(110) controls so that a key button related to the event is displayed by being distinguished from the other key buttons. While power is supplied to the particular key button, the key input unit(160) blocks power supply to the rest of the key buttons. |
