PURPOSE: A light emitting device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to prevent defects of a substrate by removing dislocation on a substrate. CONSTITUTION: A substrate includes a plurality of patterns. A plurality of patterns are downwardly formed from an upper side. A semiconductor layer(120) includes a plurality of air gaps(115). An n type semiconductor layer is formed on the first semiconductor layer. A p type semiconductor layer is formed on an active layer(140).
