<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device which prevents residual flux and deformation of a substrate. <P>SOLUTION: A light emitting device includes: a semiconductor light emitting element 11 emitting light; an element substrate 12 where the semiconductor light emitting element 11 is mounted on an upper surface and a pair of external electrodes 15a, 15b is formed on a lower surface so as to face each other; and a sealing part 14 covering the semiconductor light emitting element 11. A groove part 31, passing between the external electrodes 15a, 15b and having opening ends 31a, 31b at both side surfaces, is formed on the lower surface of the element substrate 12.
