PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excavation mechanism superior in boring advance efficiency, and to provide a shield machine having such an excavation mechanism, without generating an unexcavated part in a connecting part of an excavation means, even in the case of constituting the excavation mechanism by connecting a plurality of excavation blocks. SOLUTION: This excavation mechanism has a connecting means 27 formed by connecting the plurality of excavation blocks 100 having the excavation means 24 for excavating soil by rotating and transmitting driving force of a motor 30 being a driving means to the mutually adjacent excavation means, support parts 111, P and Q supporting the excavation means 24, and a penetration bit 25 arranged in the support parts 111, P and Q or at least in one place of its vicinity and excavating the soil by penetrating into the soil.
