The present invention addresses the problem of providing an eyelid detection device that prevents misdetection of the locations of upper and lower eyelids even if a pixel pattern similar to a red-eye pixel pattern is present near an occurrence of red-eye. An ECU (30) connected to an image sensor (10) and an illuminance sensor (20) is provided with the following: a day/night determination unit (31) that makes a day/night determination; a facial-position/facial-feature-point detection unit (32) that detects feature points on a driver's face; a red-eye detection unit (33) that detects red-eye; an eyelid detection unit (34) that detects the positions of upper and lower eyelids; an eyelid evaluation unit (35) that evaluates the upper- and lower-eyelid positions detected by the eyelid detection unit (34); and an eye-openness computation unit (36) that computes how open the eyes are. The eyelid evaluation unit (35) searches for red-eye candidates within regions that should contain skin according to the upper- and lower-eyelid positions detected by the eyelid detection unit (34), and if red-eye candidates are found within said regions, the eyelid evaluation unit determines that the eyelid detection unit (34) misdetected the upper- and lower-eyelid positions. |
