PURPOSE: A rechargeable battery is provided to prevent the firing and explosion caused by internal short circuit when conductor foreign substances penetrate from the outside, thereby improving battery safety. CONSTITUTION: A rechargeable battery includes a case; an electrode assembly which is housed in the case and has a first planar surface, a second planar surface(10a) and a connecting portion(10b) connecting the planar surfaces; and a support plate between the case and the electrode assembly, wherein the support plate is electrically coupled to the electrode assembly and has a planar portion generally adjacent to and overlapping at least one of the planar surfaces. |
