PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce bleeding of an image edge that occurs in a fixing step during electrophotographic process.

SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus performs the following steps of: converting image data into a color material amount signal representing the amount of a color material (S801); detecting an edge area of an image, which has a direction orthogonal to a conveyance direction of a recording medium, from the color material amount signal (S802); obtaining fixing force in fixing a toner image formed based on the color material amount signal onto the recording medium (S803); and correcting the value of the color material amount signal corresponding to pixels situated downstream in the conveyance direction in the edge area depending on the fixing force (S804).
