The cutting tool has a cutting edge on the intersecting ridge line of the rake face and the flank face, and is covered on the surface of the base thereof by a coating layer comprising Ti a Al b Nb d M e (C 1-x N x ) (provided that M is at least one selected from among Si, W, Mo, Ta, Hf, Cr, Zr, and Y, and that 0.3 ‰¤ a ‰¤ 0.8, 0 ‰¤ b ‰¤ 0.6, 0.01 ‰¤ d ‰¤ 0.25, 0 ‰¤ e ‰¤ 0.25, a + b + d +e = 1, and 0 ‰¤ x ‰¤ 1), wherein droplets are present on the surface of said coating layer, and the average composition of the aforementioned droplets that are present on the surface of the aforementioned rake face have a higher content ration of Nb in comparison to the average composition of the aforementioned droplets that are present on the aforementioned flank face. |
